India, Politics and Terror

I have been watching online the telecast of the horror that has been underway in Mumbai for the past 3 days. I do am physically in Rome but my mind and heart is with my people and my country. I am proud to be an Indian but i seriously doubt if the country is being run by the right people.I guess its about time that the administration realize that they are no longer just running a government, its about running and managing a nation. do we need to wait for such horrors to happen for us start taking the national security seriously. Its pathetic to see our politicians quarrel like little kids on a TV channel to decide whose right and whose wrong.

Thinking about the state of the politics and corruption which is crippling India i am forced to think that maybe it would have been better if we were still under the British raj. At least we had an excuse then that some foreigners are dividing our masses and ruling. It is shameful to say that it is now that our own people who are dividing us on religions bases and then ruling the nation.

Integrity within the masses is the call of the hour. Also,i think as citizens of a country like India, we need tougher laws and we as citizens should be ready to cut back some of our individual freedoms for the sake of our motherland. The administration has once again shamefully been exposed as extremely weak, lacking political will. The politics in India has just been reduced to the politics of religion, of cast and of votes.

It has become important now that India wakes up to this call and try and strengthen our intelligence system which at this time is in shackles. Its about time that we set our priority right and act accordingly.

One thing that looks like a silver lining in the dark is the fact that the people of India, probably now will start exercising their rational side and stop blindly following these damned politicians. Foolish things like the Maharastrian -north india crisis, the North-South india gap may now just be left behind in the aftermath of this grave incident. The people of india are angry but it is important not to let this aneger die.

The worry that i now have is that, probably, this may emerge the point where the people of India may also opt for the wrong path. This may as well emerge as the incident where after a single community may be isolated in the eyes and minds of millions. This has to be taken care of. An emotional division in the masses is the last thing that is required in India. We need to be together in both confronting these antisocial elements and also our good for nothing politicians.

yes. you are right that we have to be united to fight terror. but you know, theres a lot of gap that has come between communities already. though i am sure each one of us, in this hour would like to stand united, still, that trust will take time to regain.
politicians at this hour are trying their best to cash their opponents positions as elections are just on the brink. the way that indian politics is, i feel there can be no concrete step taken.
though government has decided to have more NSG and station them into 4 metro cities, but this alone would not do. federal agency IS required, which too, in turn would need time to set up. and at this time, when the central government seems to stay no longer than three months, i feel there would be no success in that decision too.
a concrete step, which only one of the strong leaders could take, would be, to neutralize POK and give Pakistan a tight slap, so that they know, that we arent just playing defensive, we can do anything anytime we want. that would be the ultimate end of terrorism from India. but obviously, these corrupt n money minded leaders, can never think of such a solution. they would rather wait till the next attack.

Yeah, i think that you are right as far as the duration of the government is concerned. It all depends on the future givernment that would take the office. It is most unlikely that the present form of UPA would be able to contiue their government in the light of the present and some past incidents. Futhermore, i guess the time has come for some dramatic action now and not just the same old baby steps that we have been taking for the past som many years. I am not sure that the total end of terrorism is a possibility. It would take much more than just laws to wipe out terrorism in all.

Well this is exactly the sort of answer that I would expect from Mr. Faraz. It is a free country and you are entitled to have your opinion, what ever that may be. It is difficult to comprehend the skewed vision of yours according to which writing a blog become intellectual masturbation. As far as your take on lightning a candle is concerned, again, I would say it is just a myopic view that you have. In a country as diverse as ours, it is just a way to express a feeling and send across a message to (this time) the politicians. What happened in Gujrat was awful. If I did not write a blog entry on that issue, it doesn’t mean that I was not concerned, but guess you won’t get this. Modi is a bastard, and a share your dislike for him. What makes this incident different from the past is only the reaction of people. At least, people are trying to bring about a ( political) change. What have you been doing. Designing a new layout for the LEVIS store? Had you been a little concerned, you could have done something to encourage the people of India and two major communities to come together. Probably drawn lampoons
(I know you’re good at them) and got it published in one of the daily.

Anyway, I do agree to only one of your statements (not completely). Why did not this uprising happened in the past. There have been scores of attacks before. This uprising should have happened long time back. My view is that instead to squabbling on this question we should act constructively and try to encourage this movement rather than discouraging it(which is exactly what you are doing). We Indians have a excellent way to pass on the blame to some one else. Usually we cry loud about the unworthy politicians that we have. Why don’t you step in and bring about a change. I’ve seen you bribing the police man when he caught you riding the bike. You should have let him take the bike with himself after all it was your fault that you did not have a license.

All I would say is that try and look at both the sides of an issue. When the bihari was shot and was labeled as terrorist, there were an equal no. of people who said that he was not an terrorist, I bet you chose not to hear that. It was wrong what happened, but you must realize that we also have to play a part to make sure that this does not happen again. I ask you, who got modi into power; it is the people of India. Then whose fault is that he did that horrendous act. It power lies with us. We need to make sure that we send the right people in the office, but before that we need to unite (specifically the Hindu and Muslims) so that they cannot continue with the divide and rule politics. I know what your reactions would be on this Mr. Faraz. I know they would still be of that of revolt of these ideas. Feel free to express them.
